Introduction
In order to implement paragraph 21 of General Assembly resolution A/RES/64/236, which ?encourages the active participation of all major groups" at all stages of the preparatory process, the Rio+20 Secretariat, in partnership with the Stakeholder Forum, and with the support of the European Commission Directorate General for the Environment, is offering a series of capacity building workshops.
Capacity building workshops were offered on the margins of the five planned Rio+20 Regional Preparatory Meetings (RPMs) in cooperation with the UN Regional Commissions. They have subsequently been offered in the DPI/NGO Conference in Bonn and now along side each of the Rio+20 Preparatory Meetings. The workshops are designed to enhance awareness of the themes of sustainable development and build capacity of Major Groups to engage with the intergovernmental process at Rio+20.
