Forests: the heart of a green economy
18 Jun 2012 - 18 Jun 2012
9:00 AM - 6:30 PM

Ribalta, Rio de Janeiro

Participants will learn more profoundly how the forestry sector can propose concrete steps for a more sustainable future. Increasingly, the climate-smart management of forests and wise use of trees are seen as a collaborative effort between the public custodians of forests, private enterprises and local communities. Non-governmental organizations (NGO's) play an important role in encouraging appropriate levels of conservation and environmental protection.

The programme will illustrate examples of climate-smart forest products into new applications, lessons learned from countries on deploying forest supply chains in low-carbon development and bio-economy, and associated benefits to local livelihoods, rural development and environmental services. The following themes will be covered:

Role of forest sector in emerging bio-economies
Forest Certification: a paradigm shift in green economy
Contributions of forest industry in rural development
