ITU Green Standards Week
5 Sep 2011 - 9 Sep 2011The event included a high level segment, focused on policy objectives and targets to measure and improve governmental green ICT strategies, and the following three workshops:
?Methodologies for Environmental Impact Assessment of ICTs?. This workshop examined the work underway in standardization organizations and industry efforts to measure the impact of ICTs on climate change. The workshop included a session focused on ways to assist developing countries to obtain and make best use of ICTs to address climate change. The workshop was jointly organized by ITU and the European Commission;
?Moving to a Green Economy through ICT Standards?. This workshop included sessions dedicated to explore how ICTs can help to address climate change, promote energy efficiency and build a green economy, shedding light on policies and best practices. The workshop was jointly organized by ITU and Telecom Italia.
"Submarine Cables for Ocean/Climate Monitoring and Disaster Warning: Science, Engineering, Business and Law?. This workshop presented the latest submarine telecommunications technologies and explored the different opportunities, challenges and risks in which they could be used in climate monitoring and disaster warning. At the same time, the workshop expressed the potential benefits of such technologies on societies, scientific communities and businesses. The workshop was jointly organized by ITU, WMO and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
