Hotels for Press
Accommodation levels in Rio de Janeiro are anticipated to be at full occupancy during the conference. While it is not the responsibility of the United Nations to procure accommodation for the media, it should be noted that the Brazilian national organizing committee for Rio+20 has committed to blocking a minimum of 500 hotel rooms in Rio de Janeiro for media covering the conference. Regional Preparatory Meeting for The United Nations Conference On Sustainable Development (Rio+20)
The Regional Preparatory Meeting (RPM) is taking place in Geneva on 1 and 2 December 2011 (Palais des Nations, salle XVIII). RPM is preparing the contribution from the UNECE region to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development which will be held from 20 ? 22 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.
The objectives of the Rio+20 Conference are to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assessing the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and addressing new and emerging challenges. Substantive discussions will focus on two themes: a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication and the institutional framework for sustainable development.
