Accommodation levels in Rio de Janeiro are anticipated to be at full occupancy during the conference. While it is not the responsibility of the United Nations to procure accommodation for the media, it should be noted that the Brazilian national organizing committee for Rio+20 has committed to blocking a minimum of 500 hotel rooms in Rio de Janeiro for media covering the conference. If you're lucky enough to read this and realise that you're part of the change - and your opinions count, then you've already taken the first step to ensuring sustainable development! Because young people's voices often go unheard and we're trying to change that.

There's something BIG happening in June: the UN Earth Summit (also known as Rio+20), where decisions will be taken that concern all of us. The UNCSD Major Group of Children and Youth are the constituency of young people interested in engaging with Rio+20. So, if you are under 30 then this is your constituency?.make your voice heard!

You can get involved in may ways...because we need to do so much leading up to Rio+20. It is okay if you don't have experience. We know that you have seen the problems and we are sure you have some ideas about how to solve them. So, this is your chance....let us know what you think we should be focusing on by emailing Kiara (South Africa)

It doesn't matter what your contribution is. We want to hear from you! There is lots going on and whatever you enjoy doing--welcome!

To give you an idea...below are some projects that you can get involved in.

*Capacity Building: We are in the final stages creating the capacity-building toolkit aimed at young people without internet access so that they can also learn about how they can make change from a grassroot level. Contact Barkha (Mauritius) or Sasha (UK)

*Mapping: We are currently making this really great map of what young people are doing ALL over the world! So, don't have your initiative forgotten. We are just finalising decisions about software and things like that but soon we will be sharing it with young people globally and we have already got lots of data. If you want to join us contact

*Come to the Youth Blast if you will be in Rio to meet thousands of young people based globally who are also involved in Sustainable Development / the Environment and lets prepare for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development together. And what have we done so far?

*Participated in the policy process:- Thousands of young people representing hundreds of NGOs or networks or councils that themselves represent millions of young people like you worked together to compile our contribution to the compilation document. But that is just the start! We have thematic taskforces and we are attending the negotiations leading up to Rio+20.

But we are a also global we have thousands of grassroots efforts being done by millions of young people like you. But we need to show that we are doing things. This is why we need you.
