Renewable Energy Development and Energy Efficiency in the Mediterranean: Challenges and Opportunities
17 Apr 2012 - 19 Apr 2012The southern Mediterranean region has an important renewable energy potential, in particular for solar and wind energy sources, which could contribute to enhancing energy security, access to sustainable energy and climate mitigation. Renewable energy presents an opportunity but also a complex challenge for the region. What is this region?s capacity to pursue energy policies and support the development of renewable energy on their territory?
The Seminar aimed to promote information sharing among the energy actors in the Mediterranean and present the results on recent reports on energy efficiency and renewable energies development, interaction between water/energy and climate issues, the role of the building sector in relation to the regional energy issue, socioeconomic impacts, particularly on employment, and training for renewable energies and energy efficiency development, as well as the implementation of energy indicators in different countries in the region.
The seminar was organized by Plan Bleu and supported by ADEREE (Agence Nationale pour le Développement des Energies Renouvelables et de l?Efficacité Energétique) and in cooperation with OME (Observatoire Méditerranéen de l?Energie) and RCREEE (Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency).
