UNDP Policy and planning support for scaling up energy access, increasing the share of renewables and improving energy effiiciency
Organization(s) making commitmentUNDP as part of the Sustainable Energy for All campaign
Achievement of CommitmentActions to accelerate and scale-up progress towards the achievement of universal access to energy, increasing the proportion of renewable energy in countries’ energy mix and scale up of energy efficiency practices in priority sectors of national economies.
How this will be achievedUNDP will support multistakeholder processes to identify gaps and barriers to sustainable energy for all, contribute to technical support in development plans and strategies for development, investments and scale up of actions to address the gaps and barriers, support the implementation of identified actions and contribute to building technical, financial and institutional capacity including to monitor and track progress.
UNDP actions will strengthen the policy and institutional frameworks needed for low-emission, climate-resilient development and sustainable energy; mobilize resources and expand financing options for energy sector development—especially in terms of providing access to reliable energy services for low-income households; removing barriers to energy markets for low-income households; scaling up innovations in energy service delivery, by combining innovative, sustainable business models with a wide range of energy technologies; aligning the work of the UN system at the national level behind energy programming that integrates the three strands of sustainable development, via the resident coordinator system; and working with a wide variety of partners, at the global and regional levels, at the national level with governments, the private sector and civil society, and at the local level with local governments, businesses, civil society, and local communities.
