16 Apr 2011 - 16 Apr 2011
9:30 AM - 5:30 PM

New York, USA

The G77 Retreat on UNCSD has three primary objectives: (i) to mobilize broader engagement by developing countries in the preparatory process; (ii) to generate concrete ideas for achieving the UNCSD objective, namely to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assessing the progress to date and the remaining gaps in implementation, of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development and addressing new and emerging challenges; and (iii) to foster among developing countries a better understanding of the two themes: a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication and the institutional framework for sustainable development.

The event will be open to Permanent Representatives of Member States of the Group of 77 and China. Participants will be invited to share their views and ideas on the conference objective and themes and to
discuss ways in which the international community and Governments can prompt action on new and emerging challenges.
