2nd National Forum: Validation of the Philippines? Rio+20 Report

Pursuant to the President?s directive to the Philippine Council for Sustainable Development (PSCD) to undertake the necessary preparations for an effective participation in the Rio+20 Conference, the PCSD Coordinating Secretariat embarked on a series of preparatory activities which include the conduct of the 1st National Forum, Round Table Discussions (RTDs), and Regional Consultations, among others. These activities set the country?s expectations on the Rio+20 Conference particularly on its two themes: Green Economy (GE) and, the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development (IFSD).

The outputs from the RTDs and the regional consultations served as critical inputs to the formulation of the Philippines? Rio+20 Report which is composed of: a) Country strategy paper on the two themes of the Rio+20; and b) Assessment report of the Philippine Agenda 21 and United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) commitments.

The 2nd National Forum will be convened to achieve the following:

1. Present the draft 20-year assessment of the PA 21 implementation and UNCED commitments;
2. Present the country strategy paper on the two themes of the Rio+20 Conference, namely:
a. Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation
b. Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development
3. Validate, solicit comments and recommendations on the draft Philippines? Rio+20 Report.

The 1-day Forum will be attended by 120 participants from government, civil society, labor and business sectors. The National Consultants for the Philippines Rio+20 Report and UN agencies who have given support to the preparation are also participating in the forum as resource persons.
