Sustainable Transport in the Cities of the Future - Workshop
19 Jun 2012 - 19 Jun 2012
9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Rua da Assembléia, 10, Centro, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

The importance of sustainable transportation in cities cannot be overstated. It is the backbone of any successful city and vital to building cities which are clean, equitable, accessible and economically viable. If Rio +20 does not make sustainable transportation a priority, it will have missed possibly the most important issue facing urban development today.

The workshop will provide an expert view from leading practitioners in the field of sustainable mass transit and provide a broad discussion with the various stakeholders on sustainable transport in the context of Rio+20. With this workshop we hope to be able to offer an attractive vision of future urban mobility.

The event will feature:
? An overview from the UN on the latest developments in the build up to Rio+20 and the role that transport can play in delivering the goals of the conference.
? High level panel discussion with representatives from leading practitioners on the future of urban mobility, based on high quality sustainable mass transit.
? Practical examples of sustainable mobility projects and lessons learned from mass transit operators with a particular focus on delivering sustainable urban mobility projects in Latin America.

Just as importantly, there will also be a space for you to share your views and comments with high level officials, delegates and sustainable transport operators in the context of Rio+20.

Refreshments and a light lunch will be served.
